Children's Hospital and The Make-A-Wish Foundation Giving

Giving back to the community is an essential part of the culture at McKamish. Through the generosity of the employees and corporate giving, we were honored to present The Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and The Make-A-Wish Foundation with donations to support their cause. Both organizations have positive and life changing impacts on our community every day.
 






Christmas Brunch

McKamish employees and their families came together at Heinz Field on December 18th for the annual Christmas Brunch. Heinz Field provided a buffet brunch, kids participated in a craft and enjoyed Santa’s surprise appearance! David McKamish thanked all of the employees for their hard work and efforts throughout the year and congratulated six employees (John Jordan, Pierre Moreau, Mike Garrity, Pat Kerr, John Moran and Jay Groom) for reaching 25 years of employment with McKamish.

Supervisors' Weekend
Posted: 10/14/16

On Friday, October 14th and Saturday, October 15th, McKamish employees gathered at Seven Springs for the annual Supervisors’ Training. The main focus of the training was on estimating, where employees were split into ‘companies’ and had to estimate a project within an allotted time. Following Saturday morning’s training, employees participated in a number of events including a corn hole tournament and the many activities at Seven Spring’s Fall Fest. The weekend wrapped up with a party, featuring The Studio-E Band, at which employees and guests enjoyed a night filled with dinner, dancing and camaraderie. 

 






Girls Rock Science

On September 24th and 25th, McKamish partnered with MBM Contracting at the second annual Girls Rock Science event at the Cargnegie Science Center. The event promotes careers in the STEM industry among young girls. McKamish highlighted the plumbing side of our industry by having participants put together PVC piping throughout a maze. Thank you to all of the volunteers, the Carnegie Science Center and KDKA for putting on a fun filled event.

McKamish would like to welcome Tom Kress to the McKamish Team!

Tom has joined the team as a Project Manager in the Industrial Group and has over 30 years in Mechanical and Industrial experience. He has managed many notable projects, including his most recent project at The Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

Tom recently moved back to his hometown of Pittsburgh.  He and his wife Maria live in McCandless, and have three daughters and one grandchild.

McKamish would like to welcome Danny Sergeon to the McKamish Team!

Danny has joined the team as a Plumbing Estimator and has 28 years of experience in the construction industry. Starting out as an apprentice plumber, Danny worked his way up to becoming a superintendent in South Florida. Ten years ago he moved to Pittsburgh where he has worked for local contractors in both estimating and project management.

Danny currently resides in Pittsburgh and has 5 children and 2 grandchildren.

2016 Golf Outing

McKamish employees gathered at Pittsburgh National Golf Club on August 20th, 2016 for the 29th annual McKamish Golf Outing. Congratulations to this year's winners: Zach Totterdale, Pat Kilkeary, Jim Baughman Sr. and Jim Baughman Jr. 

We would also like to thank the many volunteers and prize sponsors that made this event a great success! 

 




Olympic Challenge

The 2016 Olympics were in full swing at McKamish!

For eight days during the Olympic Games in Rio, employees participated in various events that represented the Olympic Sports.  The events included:  Beach Volleyball (wall balls), Cycling (spin bike hill climbs), Long Jump (wall sit), Rhythmic Gymnastics (hula hoop), Pentathlon (burpees), Decathlon (pushups), Boxing (jump rope), and Swimming (swimmers).

Employees won raffle tickets for Gold, Silver and Bronze and were entered to win prizes at the “Closing Ceremonies”.  Congratulations to all the winners and to those who participated!






Pittsburgh Penguins Dress Down Day

On Thursday, June 9, McKamish employees showed their Pittsburgh pride to support the Penguins for game 5 of the Stanley Cup Finals. With a donation to Children’s Hospital, all employees could dress down, or gear up, in their favorite Penguins attire. Let’s go Pens!

McKamish would like to welcome Naley McKamish who has joined our team as the new Director of Marketing.  Naley is a recent graduate from the University of Pittsburgh with a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration in Marketing and Supply Chain Management.  She has gained experience by interning within the industry, including time at McKamish where she was involved with a variety of marketing projects and tasks.  

Naley currently resides in Lawrenceville and is looking forward to being on the McKamish Team.

Walk for Children's

On Saturday, June 4th, McKamish employees gathered together to walk at the first ever Walk for Children’s event held at Schenley Park in Pittsburgh.  This 5k walk celebrated those who may have received care in the hospital, which accepted its first patient on June 4, 1891, 125 years ago. 

Along with a generous sponsorship and the personal donations from both employees and vendors, The McKamish Team was able to raise $5,126.00 to donate to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation in celebration of this event!

McKamish Welcomes Corey Wilson as new Project Engineer

McKamish would like to welcome Corey Wilson who has joined our team as a Project Engineer. Corey is a recent graduate from West Virginia University with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering. He has been interning with McKamish since the summer of 2015 gaining the most experience on projects taking place in West Virginia, including Ruby Hospital.

Corey currently resides in Morgantown, WV. He is looking forward to being on the McKamish Team and the experiences ahead of him.

Welcome McKamish Summer Interns

McKamish would like to welcome the (3) interns we have working with us this summer:

Constance Raftis – Constance is currently attending the University of Pittsburgh and plans to graduate in April 2018 with degrees in Finance and Marketing. At McKamish, she will be assisting with the transition and early implementation of a new company-wide Management Information System. While in school, Constance is involved with the professional business fraternity Alpha Kappa Psi, a pre-law fraternity Phi Alpha Delta, and intramural basketball. In her spare time she enjoys reading, video-making, and volunteering at the soup kitchen, foodbank or her church.

Jacob Wiskeman – Jacob is currently attending Robert Morris University and plans to graduate in May 2017 with a degree in Manufacturing and Industrial Engineering. At McKamish, Jacob will be working with our industrial, estimating and project management teams on various projects and tasks. While in school, Jacob is an active member of the Robert Morris University Rugby team. Outside of school his interests include quad riding, kayaking, working on vehicles and hunting.

Matt Kocian – Matt is currently attending the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown and plans to graduate in April 2017 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. At McKamish, Matt will also be working with our industrial, estimating and project management teams on various projects and tasks. Through the school year, he is an active member of the Baja Team which builds and designs off road vehicles to compete with at the Society of Automotive Engineers sponsored competition. In his spare time, Matt enjoys remodeling and renovating homes, working on anything with a motor, hunting, fishing, quad riding and the outdoors.

McKamish Welcomes CMU Students for their 2016 Spring Project

On Wednesday, April 20th, (35) third year Carnegie Mellon University Architectural Students visited the McKamish shop to see the complete fabrication of a support bracket, which was a requirement of their class “Applied Methods in Practice via Commissioned Fabrication”.

Led by Professor John Folan, each student was requested to design a structure and take a steel support from the structure, detail it and have it fabricated. The following labor and material parameters were to be utilized in the development of the fabricated components:

  •           (2) Pieces of steel plate 1/8” thick, 6”x 6”
  •           (2) Bends
  •           (1) Weld
  •           Use of CNC Plasma 

Stations were set up in the McKamish Shop at the Press Brake, the High Definition Plasma Table and at a Weld Station.

Students experienced first-hand the fabrication process and were excited to see their concepts go from detail drawing to reality.  Check out some of the pictures from their experience below!
 






McKamish Welcomes Lynette Olszewski to the Service Group

McKamish would like to welcome Lynette Olszewski who has joined our team as the new Service Coordinator.  She brings over 15 years of business to business Customer Service experience to our team and will be working alongside the McKamish Service Group providing outstanding service as we continue to grow.

Lynette currently resides in Allison Park with her husband Adam and their son Nathan.

McKamish Welcomes Neil Menzies as new Sales & Estimating Manager

McKamish would like to welcome Neil Menzies who joins the McKamish team as the new Sales and Estimating Manager.  Neil has over 31 years of experience in the construction industry.  He started his career as an apprentice plumber/pipefitter and worked his way up to owning his own plumbing and piping company in England. Neil then moved the United States and started working as an Estimator, a Project Manager and Senior Project and Estimating Manager for various Mechanical and Industrial Construction companies here in Pennsylvania, as well as in Minnesota and Illinois. 

Neil and his wife, Debbie, have three children, a 14 year old son and twin 9 year old daughters and live in Harrison City.

McKamish Welcomes Toby Barrick as new Network Administrator

McKamish would like to welcome Toby Barrick who joins the McKamish team as the new Network Administrator.  With a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology and an Associate’s Degree in electronics, Toby will be involved with all day to day IT activities including data and security related operations and network infrastructure.  He also has 9 years in the Army/National Guard.

McKamish Recognized for Safe Work Practices

McKamish employee, Pat Kilkeary, was recently recognized by one of our industrial customers for his outstanding safety performance and leadership! Brush Aftermarket started a Safety Recognition Program a few years ago to reward the most safety conscious person in their company on a monthly basis. In December, for the first time, they nominated an outside contractor for this award. Pat Kilkeary of McKamish was recognized with a certificate and given a nice prize for his excellent communication and for the safe work practices of the piping crew that he was leading for McKamish.

McKamish Welcomes Kim Roscoe as new Accounting Assistant

McKamish would like to welcome Kim Roscoe who has joined our team as an Accounting Assistant.  Kim has been in construction accounting for 15 years and will be involved with an assortment of accounting functions within all four groups at McKamish.

She currently resides in Pittsburgh with her husband, Jeff, and their two kids.  Welcome to the team Kim!






McKamish Christmas Brunch

McKamish employees and their families gathered together at Heinz Field on December 13th for the annual McKamish Christmas Brunch.  Everyone enjoyed a buffet brunch as David McKamish thanked the employees for their hard work and efforts throughout the year.  Santa made his annual return to the brunch as well!

McKamish Charitable Chili Cook Off

On December 3rd, McKamish held its first Charitable Chili Cook Off!  A member of each department was selected to represent their group in the cook off, while other employees were welcome to become “official” taste testers and vote for their favorite by making a donation to a local charity.

We would like to thank our "Celebrity" panel of judges from various charitable organizations including:  Rachel Petrucelli, Brian Harman, and Joey Warren of Children’s Hospital; Stephanie Pugliese of Make-A-Wish; Jerry Gaughan of St. Anthony’s Schools; and William Sullivan of Marthinsen & Salvitti. 

The competition was close, but the winners were the Project Managers!  Congratulations, and thank you to all who participated in this great event.






Supervisor’s Training

On Friday, November 6th and Saturday, November 7th, McKamish conducted a Supervisors’ Training at the Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh.  John Koontz, MCAA’s National Director for Project Management and Advanced Supervisory Education, was our guest speaker and discussed important construction specific topics such as planning, scheduling, documentation, leadership and the partnership between Project Manager and Foreman.  Our Safety Director, Ralph Natale, also spoke to the group and discussed Safety Leadership and Safety Culture at McKamish.

STEM Event “Girls Rock Science”

On October 3rd and 4th, McKamish partnered with MBM Contracting at the first "Girls Rock Science" event at the Carnegie Science Center in Pittsburgh. This event, geared towards girls ages 6-18, promoted careers in the STEM industries (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), including construction.  McKamish focused on the plumbing side of our business by creating a hands on activity that required participants to get from one side of a maze to the other using PVC piping.  Great fun was had by all who took on the challenge!

 

We would like to thank our volunteers as well as Pena-Plas who generously donated PVC piping for this event.

 





Children’s Hospital “Lean On Me”

This year, Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC celebrated their 125th Anniversary by hosting an anniversary gala at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center on October 2, 2015. McKamish was proud to sponsor such an event in our community, and as part of our sponsorship were asked to participate in a sing-a-long video of “Lean on Me.”   Check out the video below that includes our employees Judy Miller, Natalie Urso, David Lyon, Dave Casciani and Kevin McKamish!

WVU Ruby Hospital - Topping Out Ceremony

WVU Ruby Hospital and the construction team celebrated the topping out ceremony on September 15, 2015 by placing the final beam on top of the new 10-story Southeast Bed Tower Addition! The beam was signed by employees of the hospital and the construction workers prior to setting it in place. McKamish is proud to be a part of this project and thanks all of our employees for their dedication and hard work.






McKamish Construction Management Directorship

McKamish is honored to congratulate John Sebastian, who was recently named the first McKamish Construction Management Director at the University of Pittsburgh.  Sebastian will hold this position serving Pitt’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering within the Swanson School of Engineering, and he will work primarily with students earning a concentration in Construction Management and Sustainability. 

 

We congratulate John and are anxious to see what great things he will accomplish during his time in this directorship.
